A Brief History of Coaching
Traditionally, coaching has been globally connected with sport and elite athletes. Tim Gallwey published his best-selling book entitled The Inner Game of Tennis in 1974, in which he stated that tennis players played two matches at once, the outer game and the internal game. He clarified that the exterior play was the physical game played against the adversary, and the internal game was a player’s self-doubt and anxiety.
Gallwey thinks that the key to achievement is to master the internal game. This book has had a major effect on sports coaching and is recognised as one of the most important documents in life coaching history as we now understand it. Life coaching has origins in humanistic psychology and is now recognised as an important skill in organisational growth, business psychology, performing arts and many social sciences.

The difference between coaching and mentoring
Coaching and mentoring may be highly useful, but the strategy and fundamental key values vary significantly.
Mentoring is usually performed in the workplace where a senior member of employees mentors a junior member of employees. The mentor / mentee connection is not an equivalent connection due to the hierarchy present in most organisations, rather it is one where the mentor shares his / her expertise and expertise with less the skilled mentee. The relationship of mentoring may be an ongoing relationship over an extended period and may be vague in terms of objectives and required results. The mentor connection can often be an unofficial debrief and advice sharing session without the mentees mindset addressing particular problems. The connection between mentors is more interested with the growth of skills and learning from someone with superior knowledge.
Compared to coaching a cooperative relationship where the coach thinks that the person has all the responses to accomplish their achievement, they may just need some advice to overcome present barriers. My experience as a coach
I’ve been working in healthcare for over 20 years, first as a registered nurse and then as a manager, up to the level of manager. Throughout my career I was taught and used a variety of coaching techniques including health coaching, career coaching and management coaching.
I started formal training in Resilience Coaching a few years ago and since then I have been working with clients and teams to manage stress and build resilience. I also finished instruction in Clinical Hypnotherapy, Neurolinguistic Programming, Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy, Emotional Freedom Technology and Desensitization and Reprocessing of the Eye Movement (EMDR). Depending on their goals and personal preferences, I use a combination of these approaches with the clients I work with.

How long are the coaching sessions
A coaching session is 50 minutes but longer sessions can be organised when required.
How much does a coaching session usually cost?
Sessions are £65, extended and group sessions will be discussed and agreed at the initial consultation.

I am a qualified Coach and a member of the Association for Coaching. As a member I am bound by the Association of Coaching ethics and standards that are laid out in The Global Code of Ethics for Coaches, Mentors and Supervisors.
I am a Registered General Nurse registered with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and I am bound by the ethics and standards laid out in The Code – Professional standards of practice and behaviour for nurses, midwives and nursing associates.
I am a Hypnotherapist and a student member (full membership due in September 2019) of the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH) and I am bound by The NCH Code of Conduct .
